Our Story

Welcome to The Sewing Society. We make beautiful, easy sewing patterns for the home sewist. We want to inspire the creation of garments that showcase your individuality & style in what you wear everyday.

Our aim is to bring you patterns that are stylish and classic with an interesting twist here and there. Our patterns work beautifully made up as they have been designed, but they are also very flexible, enabling you to get creative and bring your own vibe and style to what you are sewing.

Sewing, creating, and making is such a wonderfully empowering thing and being able to sew your own clothes is really special. To be able to make something to your exacting specifications, that only exists because you created it…..well that’s kind of mind blowing if you ask me.

In a world of cheap, fast fashion it’s liberating to be apart of a movement that champions sustainability, resourcefulness and using your hands to make a garment that takes time and mindfulness to achieve, one stitch at a time.

I fell in love with sewing at a very early age.  I started out with hand sewing (from watching my Nanna knit, crochet and embroider) but my mother got me interested in dressmaking and, when I was 14, my beautiful grandparents gave me a sewing machine and I never looked back.

I studied sewing and textiles all throughout my school career then continued studying Fashion Design at The Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney and Couture Bridalwear at Central Saint Martin’s College in London.

During 2000 – 2005 my sister and I had a very successful fashion label, called Fru Fru, which was stocked all over the world.  We decided to close the label for family reasons, but I look back on these years with such fond memories of a big crazy, fun adventure!

After a few years hiatus, I felt my love of sewing calling me back!  I would often tell people about my passion for sewing and fashion and realized that so few people these days know how to sew, but they were keen to learn, and The Sewing Society was born.

I am excited to share all I know about sewing, garment construction and hand embellishment with anyone who wants to learn.  It is such a wonderfully fulfilling skill/creative outlet that has helped me through many of life’s ups and downs and I hope that through The Sewing Society you too will find the same joy and happiness in handmade!
